Rev. J. Dale English began his life in the ministry at the tender age of only two years old when his parents, Rev. Doyle & Sarah English began ministering as Pastors. Growing up in the church, Pastor Dale knew that God was calling him at an early age. He began using the musical talents that God blessed him with including singing, song writing, playing the drums, bass guitar and acoustic guitar.
After high school, Pastor Dale went to Bible College, took additional college courses later and became an ordained/licensed minister. When he was around eighteen years old, Pastor Dale felt the Lord leading him into Youth Ministry and became the Youth Pastor at a church in Stanley, Louisiana in 1986.
Two years before taking the Youth Pastor position, Pastor Dale began praying for a Godly young woman to come into his life that would gladly serve in the ministry by his side. At the age of only 16, Heather West was praying for the same thing but had no idea that the Lord was calling her into the ministry. She knew that God had called her to sing and blessed her with musical talent, but God had additional plans for her life.
Through a series of events that only God could pull off, Pastor Dale and Sis. Heather met, became friends, and then began dating. On their first real date together, the Holy Spirit revealed to both of them that they were the ones that they had been praying for and were going to marry in the future.
While dating, Pastor Dale was called to become the Youth Pastor at another church in Crossett, Arkansas, so they had to continue planning their wedding for nine more months, 200 miles apart. On June 3, 1988 they married and Sis. Heather moved to Arkansas to begin their new life together and help out in the youth ministry there. In early 1989, they moved back to Stanley, Louisiana and began praying for God’s direction in their lives.
In June of 1989, Bro. Dale & Sis. Heather were asked to be Associate Pastors and Youth Pastors at the beginnings of a new church called Family Worship Center in Logansport, Louisiana, with Bro. Doyle & Sis. Sarah English being Pastors. They also helped serve on the praise team, taught Sunday School, as well as traveled and sang with the family gospel singing group “The English Version” for eight years while they recorded two albums. They all started that church with nothing, but by the time Pastor Dale was called to another church in 1999, the church and the youth ministry were flourishing.
After serving at Family Worship Center for ten years, Pastor Dale got a call and felt led to become the Associate Pastor and full-time Youth Pastor at a larger church in Splendora, Texas, just above Houston. Pastor Dale & Sis. Heather also served on the praise and worship team as singers and musicians, as well as taught Sunday School.
Upon arrival, the youth group consisted of only around eight teens, but after only a year it quickly grew to around fifty. After outgrowing their facilities, the church built a new Family Life Center that consisted of a new gymnasium and permanent youth hall for the teens where they had an awesome warehouse theme and had their own youth band.
After averaging between sixty to seventy teens on youth nights and having four fantastic years in Splendora, Pastor Dale felt God leading his family back home and together with their two boys, Daniel and Christian, they moved back to their home in Stanley, Louisiana in August of 2003.
While praying for God’s direction, the English’s served in different churches in the area in different ways including Associate Pastor, praise and worship, and helping in different youth ministries.
Early in 2007, Pastor Dale felt led to start a contemporary praise and worship band called “Intensify.” The band was successful but Pastor Dale continued to feel God pulling him toward becoming a pastor of a church so he continued to pray and patiently waited for God’s direction and an open door.
Early in 2009, Pastor Dale got a call to pray about taking over the church that his parents were currently Pastors at, Family Worship Center in Logansport. After 20 years ministering there, Bro. Doyle & Sis. Sarah English felt God moving them in a different direction in their more than 40 years total in the ministry, but didn’t want to just close the doors of the church.
After much thought and prayer, Pastor Dale agreed to take on the church, with a huge vision, a totally different direction in mind, along with a new name, Church On The Rock. As of July 12, 2009, Pastor Dale and Sis. Heather became the Pastors of the newly named church and are expecting great things from God for this community.
Our vision is to be a spiritual hospital for the lost, broken, and hurting. A place where anyone can feel welcomed and loved no matter who you are, what you’ve done, or where you’ve been. We are the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus, the solid rock foundation on which we stand. We focus on the family, especially our children and youth. They are not only the church of tomorrow, but the church of today.
